Anita spent 9 years at university studying a broad range of sciences including chemistry, nuclear medicine, sonography, a short dabble in psychology before finding herself in nutrition. She worked in nuclear medicine and PET diagnostic imaging in Australia and the UK for 13 years before a series of health issues affected her and her family which sent her back to university to study post-graduate nutrition in search of answers!
It became obvious to her during post-graduate studies that nutrition is so much more than just food. Rather than being answered, her questions began to mount. Why are we seeing lifestyle diseases in children as young as 1 year of age? Why are 1 in 10 kids older than 12 years old now on antidepressants? (CDC National Center for Health Statistics, 2011) Why is there a 1000% increase in type two diabetes in the past two decades in children? (Ludwig, JAMA 26;286(12) 2001). It has more to do with calories in and energy expenditure surely......
Through personal experience and meeting and talking to many people (both those behind the scientific exploration and those on their own health journey), the jigsaw building began. Our health and in particular the health of our children comes down to a complex intertwine of inflammation, nutrient deficiency, toxin exposure, changes in our gut composition, stress, sleep and most importantly psychology driving our behaviours, perceptions and learnings.
If we continue to live the way we are in our modern world, our children have no hope of reaching their brilliance. Sad but true. The window of opportunity to change is becoming narrower so we need to be looking at making changes now.
Anita has stepped more into the role of an educator and hence informing families about the changes needed, giving some of the why's to questions and leading them through a program to make changes. Why wait for a diagnosis of illness in your family to work towards achieving better health?
Anita's nutritional philosophy is holistic not just looking at the whole body but at the whole family; health, history, environment, stressors and questioning other significant events in their life. It is not uncommon in one family to see a display of symptoms ranging from lacking energy, suffering from pain, hormonal issues, bowel issues, allergies, inability to lose weight, moodiness, depression, allergies, frequent illness, ear infections, skin problems or behavioural issues!
Anita is registered with several professional associations. She attends and participates regularly in conferences and seminars around Australia to constantly improve herself and her services.
She has hosted amazingly successful, regular group programs and workshops with a focus on nutrition and wellness, and has been invited to speak at public events and schools. She is approached by radio media for comment on nutritional issues, and has appeared in newspapers, and as a guest on a number of blogs and websites.
